In Vista when you install in dual boot the old NTLDR is removed and bootmgr replaces
it. If you remove Vista and still have the old OS you will need to re-write the NTLDR.
Boot to the Vista DVD, when you get the first window, click on "next" then in the
window that says "install now" look toward the bottom of the window and choose "repair
your computer". Once that window stabilizes click on "next" then"command prompt"
In the command prompt type the drive letter of your DVD (such as if it is drive D,
you would type D:) then \boot\bootsect /nt52 c:
You will have to find the drive letter of your DVD as it will probably not be the
normal drive letter while in this environment. So type drive letters and then type
"dir" to see which one is the DVD. Once you find that type (? is the drive letter
of the DVD) "?:\boot\bootsect /nt52 c:" This is running a program from the directory
called "Boot" on the DVD called "Bootsect" and then telling that program to replace
NTLDR on Drive C: After this just shut the computer, remove the DVD and boot to XP
if it was running OK before the removal of Vista.
