If your computer runs on batteries, the hybrid standby/hibernation feature is one of the very few reasons to put Vista on it. I wouldn't upgrade to Vista for it because the sleep mode doesn't work properly on every machine I tried. But if you buy a new laptop with sleepmode-conscious hardware you might want to use Vista to wake up your computer a tiny little bit faster once in a while. Check if it really works before buying. I wouldn't hurry, though. There's plenty of software that doesn't work properly with Vista.
