Jessica, I had a similar problem, only difference was the error #, it was 0x80070017.
I couldn't find out anything about it and Vista. It did show up on some XPSP2 updates.
Anyway, I was having a problem finding a file on install to a clean partition. I
kept formating the partition each time. It would transfer the files and then when
starting to unpack them, I would get the error message. It was having trouble locating
the x:sources\install.wim file. I would have to cancel the install. It did this
for four attempts.
After much desparation and being on the phone with tech support for well over an
hour. The tech went off to talk to someone else. I decided that the only thing
I had not tried was to power off the computer. I did so and even turned the power
supply off. I waited a couple of minutes and booted back up with the Vista install
disk. Formatted the partition again;started the install again, it transferred the
files again;Then in unpacking the files, it sat there for a while, I was about to
stop the install when all of a sudden it started unpacking the files. I did not
get the error message this time and I was able to install completely. Have a couple
of driver issues. But should be able to work them out.
The tech was gone for over 20 minutes and when he got back I was up and running with
multiple boot vista.
Don't know why it worked after powering off;but it did.
