Your machine came with Vista Basic that does not include the function fax and scanning.
You need to upgrade Vista to the next best version.
I have the same problem with a HP1210 all in one printer scanner though I can scan
using paint but I don't get pdf documents, only jpg, bmp, etc.
You might have more luck trying word tools if you have it.
