I was experiencing the same issue, only to discover my Nero installation made some changes to my system which were causing the problem. I removed Nero and the problem stopped. Aside from creating DVD's I was using Nero to convert videos to mpeg format. For some reason ever since I upgraded to Vista my 360 will no longer stream mpeg files. Microsoft spent 4 hours remotely working on my machine and they were unable to fix the problem. I now convert videos to wmv using Windows Movie Maker. Sure, WMV is not the best format, but at least I can stream video with Media Center and my XBOX 360.
