Vista Malware Protection Disabled!

Just something I'm bit concerned about,
Whenever I boot up my Vista PC from today I'm getting warnings that my Malware protection
is disabled, when clicking on the shield it tells me I have no antivirus software
and that windows defender is disabled!
If I click "Turn on now" to windows defender it tells me that there are no available
updates, when launching defender itself, it tells me it is monitoring the system
and there are no issues.
Also AVG the latest edition is running, fully updated, and in the taskbar next to
the clock.
BUT the red shield is still there despite this.. any ideas? It is a bit worrying,
I've done a spyware and virus scan, but could this be some new virus for vista?
Or any services that could be disabled causing it not to see the programmes are running?

Ignore the apple update, thats just quicktime popping up with an update.
