Odd Vista Drivers Problem

I'm running Ultimate 64-bit. I've got this odd problem where Vista doesn't automatically
install drivers for devices it has drivers for, and I have to point it at where to
look.

For example, just now I plugged in a USB Flash drive. It went to install drivers
for it, but couldn't find them. When it asks me to install a driver manually, I just
point it at the "C:\Windows" folder, and it finds the driver and installs it. But
it doesn't really remember this setting, I had to do it 4 times for the flash drive
to install all of it's components.

This is rather aggravating, as it should automatically get the driver from there
in the first place. Any idea what could fix it?
