I've hit the same driver problem connecting a USB pen and traced it to a base Vista
problem... Very simple to fix then install drivers, patches, software etc.
Just turn off System Restore - which is doing clever things with versions of files
so they can't be found!
Control Panel -> System -> Advanced System Settings -> System Protection. Wait for
it to load settings then untick C:\. Click to accept the change. Either unplug/replug
your device, or in device manager right click it and opt to reinstall driver and
you're done. Just got my devices installed once I found that.
