You can't imagine how hard I fought with Epson support here in France to obtain reliable
Vista drivers for my scanner, a Perfection 1250 which I don't want to relinquish,
even with a rebate on a newer model.
Anyway, forcing XP driver into my final Vista system works fine for me, thanks. Apparently,
the driver contains some WIA inf. files. The TWAIN driver seem really messed up (to
say the least).
The trick is not to load TWAIN scanning window, sorry for the Photoshop users. In
the same manner, don't spend too much time editing the scanning profiles, because
when TWAIN fails, it fails for good (then the driver and the software must be set
up again, the computer rebooted, the USB cable unplugged...).
Don't even think about contacting EPSON SEIKO for that matter. Officially, the local
support pretend they have done what they could and that we should buy a newer scanner
if we want Vista compatibility. I can't be 100% positive, but there are very few
chances that one find me buying a Perfection scanner again as I don't buy that stuff.
Do they care more for low-end scanner owners at HP ? I'll tell you about this when
my 1250 will *really* be obsolete, that is, in a few years from now !
