Help files in Windows Vista

There is software that we put on a Windows Vista PC. That software has help files
that our customer needs to access. We have installed the help program from Microsoft's
web page but it still does not want to display the help file. So we tried to associate
the file to the winhlp-xp.exe but it still does not display the help file. It says
to copy it to another drive and try it again. The file is located on a server.
Has anyone had this problem and found a fix?
