Computer freezes after scheduling disk check

I have Windows Vista. Every time I schedule a disk check (Right click C-drive, click
tools, disk check, and then it will prompt you need to restart computer in order
to check disk) and reboot, my computer always freezes during the first part. (It
will stay stuck at 1% and not do anything else) I have tried this several times and
it still happens. Any suggestions as to why or how I could fix this problem?
