The real question is why does Vista give 2 menu options (Open and Edit)
You're right there Roger! Perhaps MS think we are too dumb to handle 'File Types'.

I have contacted the software suppliers but so far no response. I hope they fix it; it seems like a useful tool if they do.

Thanks for your response. I was a bit worried that it was just me being stupid.
