Vista ViiV files missing... does this make sense?

The Geek Squad has my new Vista machine in for the third time in two weeks. It had other problems that I won't go into here but they are trying to fix something that caused a rundll32 error when I opened video files and, more importantly, find out why many of my applications run at less than 1% CPU (they show as 0% in Task Manager) when the system is idling at 98-99% and no other apps are running. My old XP machine uses it's CPU to get he job done. It doesn't sit and idle when there is work to be done. And my daughter's new Vista machine uses it's CPU too, unlike my new Vista machine. Some jobs that may take 5 or 10 minutes with my old XP machine can take many hours or even all night to run with this new Vista machine with a Quad processor and 3GB of RAM. (My daughter's Vista machine doesn't have a Quad processor). I went around and around with HP online chat support first. It was amazing how incompetent they were. Some of the things they said were almost beyond belief. But one of them told me where to look in my restore files for ViiV software because, I guess, she was going to have me restore it. But the ViiV software wasn't there. She wasn't concerned at all that it wasn't installed or in the restore files and she said, "Don't worry about it" and had me do some other silly things that had absolutely nothing to do with the problems I was having and, of course, didn't fix those problems. If I mentioned the other things she told me, nobody here would believe me. HP was no help at all so I took it back to the Geek Squad and they had it for about five minutes when they discovered that it had no ViiV software at all. That caused the update to fail that was supposed to fix the rundll32 error. It couldn't update ViiV because there was nothing to update but HP support didn't see a problem with that and told me to try the update again in Safe Mode, which got them off the hook when I had to shut down. (Tricky!) It didn't work, of course, but I played along. ). The Geek Squad has not been able to get the ViiV software loaded after two days. But the following two things are what I would like to get someone's opinion on here so I will be more informed when I pick up my PC... if I ever do: 1) I asked the Geek Squad guy what the ViiV software did. He said it helped allocate jobs and make them run faster and more efficiently. I was glad to hear that because maybe that would mean that once I had the ViiV software iinstalled, my Vista machine would finally start using it's CPU for applications instead of goofing off while apps just crawled along. I asked him if, based one what he said the ViiV software did, my Vista machine might finally run faster when that software was installed. He said..... No (???). That makes no sense to me at all. I couldn't get him to clarify what seemed to be contradictory statements on his part. But there is one more thing: 2) I asked him what would happen in the future if I should ever have to restore my machine using the Factory Image because if he got the ViiV software loaded, I assume that it wouldn't be the Factory Image because that is not supposed to change. After all, it's a factory image and it wouldn't be of much use if it changed as you updated things and it wouldn't restore the PC to it's out-of-the-box state as it is supposed to if it did change over time. He said the update would be in the Factory Image. (???) Does that make sense? The reason I am concerned about this is that a bunch of people in the Geek Squad have not been able to get the ViiV software loaded on my PC after two days so I would probably never be able to fix it myself if I ever had to restore the PC in the future. If that's the case, I will just return the PC for a refund. I do not want it if it may be a nightmare in the future if I ever have to restore it using the Factory Image. Sorry for this long question.
