Removing OLD system tray icons

When I try to customize what shows up in my system tray, I notice there are still
the icons leftover from programs I uninstalled months ago. I know I found a site
that told users how to do it in the past, but it appears as though I was less than
dilligent in my bookmarking. Anyone know of how to do it?
