VISTA password reset.

Has anyone actually successfully done this?
This is becoming quite frustrating. I have long been able to reset windows XP passwords,
and I am starting to run into Vista machines where customers need the passwords reset.
I have tried probably 3 or 4 times now with different solutions that people have
explained in detail and none of them have worked. So far I have always had some
other way around it, but ultimately I need to figure out how to really do this.
A couple methods I tried require finding the Vista installation.. The example on-line
will show one installation, where as the computers I have tried it on show at least
2 if not 3 or 4 installations "available," although there is really only 1.
I hate Vista in just about every way possible and this is just one more thing to
add to the list of annoyances. Does anyone know the secret to this password issue?
Is the password really stored in the same way XP used it? (Doesn't appear that
way) Most utilities seem to act like it is no different recovering a Vista password
as an XP password, although, obviously something is different.
