There have been several posts about downgrading from Vista to XP here, so I won't 
go into lots of details that reiterate that, however, I will say that doing the downgrade 
MIGHT be bad without fully understanding your hardware and required drivers, and 
whether those drivers will be compatible with XP.  So, in other words, doing some 
research before downgrading is highly recommended.  What the CS person from Dell 
told you about XP being a bad fit for your system might actually be true.
