.JPG files saving as .JPE

When I use IE7 to save all .JPG files, they are saving with .JPE extension. When
I have the "save as" dialog, the file name is *.jpe but the "save as type" box says
"JPEG (*.jpg)".
Something must have changed recently. I had installed some updates for Nero 7 and
a lot of the file associations got changed to use its viewers, including movie files
and jpeg images.
This is happening regardless of which website I try this with. I checked the page
source and there are no files with a ".JPE" extension so somehow or other either
the registry got messed up or IE7 got messed up. Firefox doesn't do this. Also,
when I see the files in the current directory in the "save as" dialog, I don't see
any previously saved "JPE" files as it appears to only show files of the same extension
as the "save as type" box, which doesn't match the extension the previous files have
been saved as.
I must use IE7 because my job requires it for some proprietary software we are using
so using Firefox instead of IE isn't an option here.
