If you are looking for an easy fix, be advised that none of the Windows OSes are
sold with a self-uninstalling function. Some Upgrade versions allow the user to
save a prior OS when you perform an in-place upgrade, rather than the preferred "Clean"
upgrade. When the old OS is still available, there is a way to revert to it.
However, the Home Editions of XP and Vista (AFAIK, it's both) don't consider Windows
2000 to be a qualifying prior OS they will try to preserve. You have to be using
a Professional Edition Upgrade with W2K.
That leaves you with just one way out, and you've already received the advice matching
that route. Reformat and install fresh.
