This is not the final answer! Try something for me. While you are in that blank screen with a cursor, press your Ctrl/Alt/Delete to see if you can get to your Task manager. If so click on file/new task (run) and enter "explorer.exe" (without the quoats) in the slot provided and then hit Enter. If this works and gets you a desk top we will look into your registry next.
