Sp1 & graphics card mystery

Hi everyone...recently SP1 showed up on my update list as an optional update. At
the time I didn't instal it as I wanted to check out the good, bad & ugly of it all
first. Just now I've gone to instal it & it's disappeared...no longer listed anywhere
in updates at all. However there are two other optional updates listed, one is for
silverlight...the other is graphics card driver update which is a whole other story.
A month or so back this driver update was listed so I went ahead & installed it only
to be given a black screen after first reboot. I managed to get on via safe mode
& rolled back the new driver...following that all was normal again.
Confusing huh ?...I have read Vista requires drivers to be updated prior to instal
of SP1 but my guess is I'll end up with another black screen if I go ahead & instal
that graphic card driver again....or should I just forget about SP1 for now ??
Any help would be much appreciated..thankyou.
