Hi Gary,

It depends. If you would like to keep what you have, then you can run the Vista installation
from with XP and run the Upgrade option.

However, the best way is to always to a clean install by booting from the Vista installation
DVD and format everything, then continue the installation of Vista. This will help
you avoid a lot of possible compatibility issues later with some possible left overs
from XP.

These tutorials will show you how to do a clean install with Vista depending on if
you have a Upgrade or Full version of Vista.

Upgrade version:

Full version:

Hope this helps,
Shawn

There are no dumb questions, just the people that do not ask them.
