Windows Media Player Not Opening

First I had the trouble of WMP not opening for no reason. After doing an internet
search I found this fix which works like a charm:

To resolve this problem, reregister the Jscript.dll and Vbscript.dll files. To do
this, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run,type cmd, hit enter in command Prompt, type regsvr32 jscript.dll
, and then click OK.
2. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, hit enter in command Prompt, type regsvr32 vbscript.dll
, and then click OK.

Problem is, it doesn't stick. If I view or listen to media in my browser which requires
the quicktime plugin, then I have to go through the process of re-registering the
.dll files when I want to use WMP. And in order to make it work, I have to reboot
my computer.

Does anyone know where I might go from here? It would be nice to find a permanent
fix.
