Hello,
Unfortunately you will not be able to "upgrade" XP 64 bit to Vista 32 bit. A clean
install is the only option as far as I know.
It may be worth your while to invest in an external USB drive, and back up all your
important data before doing the install of Vista. That would probably be a good idea
anyway, in the event of a catastrophic failure - like the hard drive crashing, or
a virus wiping out the system.
Remember to include your e-mail files (.DBX for Outlook Express, or .PST for Microsoft
Office Outlook), your Favorites, and the entire contents of the My Documents folder,
and anything else that you want to keep.
Failing that, copy all your important documents, e-mail files, Favorites etc. the
the second drive (you mention that you have 2 drives), assuming there is sufficient
space.
You will need at least 15 - 20 GB of free space to install Vista, with 40 GB free
typically recommended. When you perform the install, if you have copied your important
data to the second existing drive, be very careful to format ONLY the drive/partition
where you will be replacing Windows XP. If the D: drive (second drive) is a separate
physical drive, disconnect it after backing your files up to it, and before doing
the Vista installation. That way there is no chance of wiping it out.
Hope this helps,
JD
