I would look in the BIOS first to see if there is an APM (power management) setting
in there. Disable it and test the pc. That is the usual culprit.
You can create a new power profile for the next steps:
Go through the control panel --> power and set it to never sleep. Leave the monitor
set to turn off. Test.
There are advanced settings if you wish to play with them. Maybe simply disabling
power saving to the printer port and/or hard drive will resolve this.
If this is a laptop note that these higher power settings are only required during
the plugged in state (when the printer is attached).
