Hi Chris,
Thanks for highlighting this very annoying problem. I don't think it is your hardware
- this is maybe a software fault in the Windows Vista OS.
My Dell Inspiron laptop came with Windows Vista Ultimate pre-installed. I only use
my PC for Internet access, e-mail, photos, MS Word and Excel, Nero 7.0 for burning
data to CD and DVD, and for playing MP3's.
To be honest, I've had no problems with any of the software that I use with Windows
Vista, EXCEPT Windows Media Player 11 grr!!.
When I playback an MP3, Windows Media files, and videos with WMP 11 in Vista, I get
an annoying audible 'click' or 'micro-pause' every few seconds, it sounds like playing
an LP vinyl record with a scratch in it!! you can hear it through the speakers.
At that exact time my 'Hard Disk drive active' light flickers. I can only assume
that Vista is scanning the Hard Disk or something like that every few seconds and
you can hear this noise disrupting the MP3 / sound.
I've tried everything but nothing has cured the problem. As a last resort, I decided
to partition my Hard drive into 2 x NTFS and have installed a dual boot configuration
with Windows XP Prof on the C:HDD and Vista Ultimate on D:HDD partition. If I want
to play my music collection I just log into Windows XP and it works perfectly.
