Start with the simple items first.
I would suggest running 'system Configuration' and selecting the 'Diagnostic Startup'.
Then you can hopefully reboot without the encumbrances and overhead of al of the
installed devices and software. You may then start up while engaging only one of
a few items at a time till you find your problem. If on the first startup you do
not perceive a desired result though you may be looking at something in the system
files, registry or a mechanical problem. For these you would try first MS free onetime
Beta run of their "live Onecare" found online. It is the only registry check/repair
I trust. Other third party reg checkers are still trashing machines right and left.
For testing the physical devices you have to either get software for or electronic
equipment to start checking things like memory and just about everything else. It
is not unusual for laptops to suffer similar problems from excessive overheating
caused by letting the machine sit on restrictive surfaces like a sofa or bed where
they do not get good air flow. This can cause perminent damage.
And the list goes on.
