Text wont paste in Vista, etc

I purchased an Acer Aspire 5535 laptop (with 4 GB memory and 320 GB hard disc) in February 2009, which has given me almost nothing but trouble. Initially the problems were centred around the E-mail program. Microsoft Mail was already installed, but to copy E-mails, etc, from the old computer using Outlook Express, we found that we had to install Outlook on it. This is an extremely annoying program - the search and autocomplete facilities are woeful and it takes literally hours to back up E-mails (whereas with Outlook Express this only took a few minutes). I have posted about this on this forum but no-one seemed able to make any sensible suggestions. There are 2 other annoying problems: (1) When I try to paste even a small amount of text from say an E-mail or a Word Document into another Word Document, I get a message saying "The information you copied exceeds the size limit for pasting into the Word Processor. Try reducing the size of your selection and then Copy and Paste Again. The Copy and Paste however seemed to work OK when you are copying from 1 E-mail into another, or from 1 part of the same word document into another. This is obviously complete nonsense! (2) The size of text, in E-mails, webpages, word documents and spreadsheets, keeps changing (either from large to small or vice-versa) if moving the cursor; I usually have to click on the Zoom figure (normally 100%) in the bottom right hand corner. A very annoying and time wasting thing. (Just a second ago the text size changed from 100% to 70%, for example). Having come near putting my boot into £400+ worth of computer on several occasions, I would appreciate some good practical advice (not sarcasm, please!). The computer also seems rather slow at times (for a new one - I haven't added much data from the old one except for the E-mails) and also occasionally hangs up and stops working in Internet Explorer, etc. AT WITS END
