I'm sure others have their own way of doing things, but this is mine and it works.
I have always taught people to make a directory (or even many) some where on you
hard drive that is easy to access (short path name) like c:\bench or c:\tepm1. You
pick a name and place. Just make it simple to remember and easy to find. You use
it like a work bench in your shop to do things like D/L files, Unzip and any other
utilitarian work you may need. That way it is always the same. Like a work bench,
when you are done clean it out.
Now if you D/L your files to this folder then make a simple transfer after you are
done to the USB drive. !Bingo!, you got it.
In the DOS days when you had to enter in every address manually this became a standard
method.
I am wondering if you are having a problem with your USB drive though, as a direct
D/L should not be any effort?
