I doubt the the Intel chipset has anything to do with your video chip. Look at your
manual or other ownership paperwork and see what type of video card or chip you have.
Even if it is a built in chip on the motherboard it may very well be listed as a
video CARD. Don't get caught up on words at that point. Look for the manufacturer
like "Nvidia" and a model number.
If you incur a boot problem, you should be able to boot into SAFE MODE if the problem
is just a driver issue. From wherever you can get online you can D/L the proper driver
for your system from either the machine's web site or the maker of the card (chip).
If it is Intel, the process is much the same, just a lot more complicated and you
have to search forever for some of their drivers.
I also tend to avoid 'driver' updates from MS. I don't have a lot of bad feelings
for MS, it's just that I let the manufacturer who makes and know their own stuff
do that work.
The fact that you only have a reduced resolution is due to the fact that you only
have a generic driver installed that comes built into Windows. That is only meant
to get you started and in no way meant to be a satisfactory substitution for the
real thing.
