Among those that you will see should be a couple of MS programs (some MS office?),
one or more related to your anti-virus, probably one or more associated with the
sound card, Java, Adobe acrobat, Possibly the vid card util, and there are a couple
that you won't understand.
Now I have a lot of excess on my machine and my startup has 22 programs in it. I
wouldn't worry too much unless you specifically see something out of place or if
you get 10~20 more than what I mentioned. Yes you want a lean running machine. It's
just like keeping your body fit, but be careful not to eliminate something without
fully researching what it is and how it could affect you machines operation. If you
do take something out, document it, how you removed it and how you might go about
getting it back if you remove something critical in error.
