Dan I agree with you at this point. The lack of a firewall or anti virus at this
point would only get in the way and not prevent anything. My suggestions are going
to be simple. First Have you tried the reset on the router. I'm not talking unplugging
like you mentioned. There should be a tiny (probably red button the diameter of a
pencil lead or a small hole that you can insert a paper clip into. Try that.

Also have you tried any other drivers for the device. Some of the original drivers
for Vista just plain don't work. Especially if you have SP1 or SP2 installed.
Make sure you IPv6 is turned 'ON' not off like some site suggest.

There could be a remote chance you need the "MAC Bridge Miniport" Protocol installed
on this machine or if you are linking THROUGH another Vista machine, on that machine.

I am sure you have already tried this, but must ask, have you tried this machine
by itself with on others attached to the routed by any means?

Is there a chance you WiFi card's software is set for AP mode in error.

Try to re-install the card, completely remove/delete the drivers
and reinstall. this is in case you have changed any of the settings.

Again are you connecting through another machine first. Is it set to accept only
assigned MAC addresses? Does you router have this ability?

Can you ping the router?

That should keep you busy for a few minutes at least!

THen try the suggestions at this link. You may have to sign up before you can access
it.

I have also included the site of an MS MVP that is dedicated to networking.
