I can't imagine that the reset button on the router would change anything, but if
there's one thing I know, it's never to underestimate the little things. It will
take what, four seconds to test that? Definitely will give it a shot.

TCP/IPv6 is turned on; the only way I could get even a 169 IP was to activate both
it and TCP/IPv4. Also, I've thus far tried the drivers which were installed prior
to my coming, rolled back to the default Windows drivers, and downloaded the most
up-to-date drivers I could find online and tried them. No noticeable change.

I should be going directly through the wireless router, no need for a link through
another machine... but I will certainly investigate the MAC protocol you mentioned
and give it a shot.

Unfortunately, the other computers were in use during the six hours I was trying
to fix this one, so I wasn't able to have it and only it attached to the router.
It shouldn't make a difference, though if you tell me something I would find out
by doing so, I will make it happen next time. As a note in conjunction with that,
if I enter in the IP address on a working computer to get access to the router, I
can see all the other computers accessing the router, and the one giving me problems
shows up as ERROR ERROR instead of a computer name or other information.

I didn't think to ping the router; will try and see what happens. The router does
have MAC denial/acceptance, but the feature is disabled by default. Meaning that
criteria isn't used to determine who can access what. And since we are connecting
directly to the router, not via another computer, we don't have to mess with their
settings.

Since I don't know what an "AP mode" is, I will research it online and see what I
can dig up. I'll also take a look at your links, see what they have for ideas.

When I swapped NICs, I uninstalled the drivers. Reinstalling the original NIC meant
reinstalling drivers; I went with the most updated ones online for the reinstall.

Thanks for all the suggestions! There is a reason I always check this site first...
you guys tend to know your stuff and are willing to post! Keep 'em coming if you
have any more ideas; I won't be able to work on it for awhile and want all the possibilities
with me when I do.
