time related display restart problem

Often when my Sony Vaio VGN FZ150E laptop awakens from sleep (after closing lid), or is started cold, the display does not come on. It usually flickers on or brightens slightly for a second or less, then goes black again. The only way that I can get the display to come on is by repeatedly closing and re-opening the lid (maybe three or four times) and pressing the power button. The odd thing is that this problem always occurs after the computer has been asleep or turned off overnight or for several hours, but usually does not occur when the computer has only been off for a shorter period. It awakens normally most of the time (not 100% always) when it has only been asleep or off for an hour or less. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

How stupid do they think we are? Are they right?
