I'm just doing a little guessing here. The fact that XP was able to run it surprises
me. Even if the file is in the same folder as the main program it has a routine that
searches the 'Path Statement' to find things and it is not seeing the statement,
therefore it presents you with an argument. And of course because the file it needs
is available it goes ahead and runs! All you need to do is set these parameters to
prevent the argument from triggering.
I don't know if you know much about DOS setup from the old days, but they used to
have some files that set up the system and told DOS where everything was and how
to use everything. Windows readily scrapped those files. They still exist, but are
never set up, because windows has no use for them. One of the statements in the
setup wa the 'Path' statement. when a program got installed this statement used to
tell the ???.exe where to find is associated files to run them in conjunction with
the program. This sounds like what you are missing. I believe you can sufficiently
set these up in the 'Properties' for the Program without having to create and run
a path statement to run at startup. Look up information on the Path Statement and
study up a little about that if you never had the advantage of running DOS from the
old days. Better yet set up an old machine to run DOS and have some fun.
