Usually this would indicate viral activity the forces you to pay a site to unlock
you machine (and usually comes right back), but this is a legitimate company that
does paid surveys for a business. You can look them up in the 'Who IS' web site.
That gives yo details on everything about the company including their address in
Oregon. and *Phone* #. The machine may be locked up on one of their surveys that
your son got hoodwinked into taking. This happens sometimes with these "You have
won 10,000 dollars" and that type of thing, but if so they can not charge you to
help you stop it.
SO;
Have you tried to remove it from the list in 'Task Manager'?
Have you tried to Run MSconfig from the run window and set it for "Diagnostic Startup'?
Have you tried start the machine in 'Safe Mode'.
You can Down load a program called "Hijack this" for free and run it in safe mode
or hopefully using the diagnostic boot you can run it in a normal boot-up. Hijack
this shows you a list of items that you should see your offending program in. Look
hard, but don't just go deleting stuff you don't have a clue about or for no good
reason. Though Hijack this has a restore function.
And of course you can call Oregon to 123survey. I doubt that the problem is intentionally
locking anything though or this would be published all over the web as illegitimate
and have official routines to remove it already.
Remember after all is finished to return MSconfig to a normal boot configuration.
