These are all excellent comments and good advice. I have one to suggest and even
it may no longer be available for you, depending...
MS Live OneCare Beta
First don't let the Beta part scare you. and second who better knows the system in
depth enough to be able to unscramble your registry without trashing it. I have had
very good success with it and feel that is does provide at least a minimum of aid
in maintaining you system. The only fault I have seen is a VERY FEW comments of people
saying it trashed their systems (like all the others have). Secondly if you have
SP2 it may no longer activate at all and I do not know if they plan on fixing it.
I saw a notice of such and experienced it first hand. If you have SP2 and you choose
the reg. scan it acts like it is going to start and just skips on by. For a paid
service I use and trust Auslogics which has many good and useful features. A not
on Auslogics, I have never run a deep reg. scan nor will I trust any other one to
do so, other than MS themselves. I had too many machines I had to reinstall the OS
because of doing so.
