Removing USB Stick Causes BSOD

I just received a new HP HDX 18t laptop with Vista Ultimate 64-bit. I was transferring files from my old laptop using a Memorex 2GB TravelDrive. This process was going very well yesterday - in fact, I had no trouble with inserting the stick, and then removing it without "safely" removing it. Today, however, when I remove the stick (safely or not) I get a BSOD. I'm new to Vista, and if this were XP I think I'd have a better time looking into it. But I have no clue how to even track down what's going on.
