Vista seems terribly slow with simple file operations, let alone unlocking files needed for a save/restore. Second, I have seen one laptop (hp) that hung (like yours) so I clicked system restore again. After a message that system restore was already running, the window came up. I did not look for a solution to this because system restore is used seldomly. However, if this workaround works on your Toshiba, please post back as that would point to vista alone and not a hardware incompatibility. Finally, you might try it in safe mode.
