Icons screen become HUGE by themselves

A friend of mine has an HP Pavilion Laptop, ds6000 series, running Vista.

He walks away and sometimes a few minutes later he returns and the icons have increased
10x in size. It happens randomly.

I've updated the nVidia graphics chip drivers to the most recent version and have
scanned his machine with Malwarebytes and there is NO malware indicated.

He is at SP1 and all MS updates are in place.

His mouse pointer also disappears randomly.

He has no external monitor connected.

I'm going to try disabling his screen saver and turning off sleep to see if that
helps.

In the meantime, does anybody know what is going on?

Thanks.
