If XP doesn't see the Drive, then that is because it has no Driver for the Controller.
Since Laptops don't have Floppy Drives, to load Drivers at a start of the
Install, you don't have a easy way to install XP.
Some Laptops have a Bios
setting to make SATA Drives look like a pata Drive. I have never seen one myself
though, so can't offer any more help on that.
You can also sometimes make
a New XP Install CD with the SATA Controller Driver Slipstreamed into the CD with
a program called nlite.
However the Laptop Manufacture would need to provide
a Driver to Download for that. I have seen a few that don't offer the Driver for
some reason.
I could also just suggest you just learn to Live with Vista
if you don't enjoy playing around with stuff like this.
