Clicking on Icons Doesn't Produce Results

Occasionally (not always) when clicking on a desktop icon (any icon), the program doesn't start, but after a while a small window appears that says "windows is unable to locate". I then have to reboot, but I can't restart from the screen, I have to reboot from the CPU and then everything is fine and it might be okay for a few days. Any ideas? Also, when Windows 7 is released, will this take care of the problem? I also heard that HP drivers won't work with Windows 7. Does this mean my HP OfficeJet 6500 printer won't work or mercy me, my HP computer? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
