Emtpy C++ Dialog Box Error

I'm running Vista Home Premium, current with all updates. My annoyance: more often than not, when I insert a disc into my DVD drive, I will get a C++ library error popup window that is completely blank -- only the outline and title bar are drawn. The error comes most often when I remove the disc, but sometimes at first. Usually, not always, after this happens, the drive no longer recognizes removable media when inserted, and I need to reboot to fix. This also happens using my Daemon virtual drive. The media may contain a DVD, or just a video file (burned as a data disc), or even a blank disc. I've Googled and Googled and cannot come up with any reference to this. I have both 2005 & 2008 C++ library files installed, with all security updates. If this is not a common problem, how to I start to troubleshoot what could be causing it?
