I don’t know where “rude” comes into the picture. I feel it would have been rude of me to the user offering to help and to the group by not reporting back the results. It would appear that the suggestion worked and I was rude not to let anyone know and not to express appreciation. Also, there would be no need for anyone who have input that might actually work to contribute to the topic. In this case, your suggestion doesn’t work. I don’t know what it is that you’re saying you forgot. I don’t know if you’re saying you forgot how to use Windows Firewall, or that you forgot how to use the GUI that you suggested would allow blocking a single port. I asked you how to use the GUI that you say you use, for blocking a single port. I understand that you can’t if you don’t remember (or know how) to use it. I immediately tried your suggestion and it failed as far as I could get. There is a help feature that also doesn’t work. So there isn’t a way to actually figure out how to use the application. I thought you might have considered sharing how you use it to block a port. But again, I don’t mean to be rude. It’s clear that you can’t help if you don’t know how to use it. Also, I’m kind of under the impression that Windows Firewall can’t block a single port. It can only secure the computer and open up specific ports. If that’s the case, having a GUI to control an application that can’t do the task in the first place is almost certainly bound to fail. I believe this information is important to the thread, since the question comes up often as I have mentioned, but so far all the responses are extremely vague. For anyone familiar with Firewalls and Ports, does anyone know of any way, using Windows Firewall or any other application, to block a single port, not by program, but by port number? By the way, I do this all the time with Linux. I use a program called iptables.

On that, does anyone know of an application similar to iptables for Windows Vista? Thanks in advance for anyone who has any input on this matter. -- L. James -- L. D. James ljames@apollo3.com www.apollo3.com/~ljames
