Perhaps my experience might be relevant. I too have just done an update and since had continuous problems. The update was Service pack 2. After a short period of use everything freezes then goes black. Then there is an intermittent message of "logon has failed to create the security options dialog". at least mine starts though it is clear to me this service pack is at fault.
