MS Word Check Box Form Field

This is so incredibly annoying I wish violence upon whoever invented it.
On MS Word, I want to create a form full of check boxes. I can do that. But, in order
to check the boxes quickly, I have to double click on each check box, after which
a pop-up "check box form field options" box comes up, and then I click on the radio
button that says "check box." This is a 4 step process to check 1 friggin box. Imagine
a page of check boxes, and having to do that each time. Please help figure out a
better way to do this.
