Wow is Vista out?

Seems alot of people here are running Windows Vista, Which is really funny considering the ONLY people that have access to it are developers, MSDN members and some members of the Microsoft Beta Testing Team. Can everyone else explain where their "copies" of vista came from? This might explain why alot of you are having issues with it. Quite simply this Vista Forum, shouldn't have as many posts as it does in it... should it people? Just a headsup, Vista will run background checks to see if its legit or not, but the system is not yet up and running at MS's end.. when it is, there will be alot of Vista installs that will simply "hit the wall" and stop working. FYI: Vista normally requires an internet connection to run decently.

You raise a good point. Even funnier is those that openly admit to downloading it illegally. Shuldnt be hard for Microsoft to track them down given their IPs are logged when they post. In short: If its not legit, don't talk about it here.. else the creators of this website could also be in trouble for supporting piracy.

10 posts in 12 days. Wow overwhelming, and probably half of those the posters aren't even using Vista.

Can everyone else explain where their "copies" of Vista came from?" "Everyone else?" You can only legally get Vista from MSDN and if you join the Microsoft Beta Testing Team and they choose you to send a copy to. Nobody here supports piracy. Thats exactly right Mac.

On browsing through all messages on this Vista Forum, I've read on at least 2 occassions people opening saying they got it off Kazaa, Imesh, or emule *thumbs down*. If this is inded the case, I hope those pirating it realise the err of their ways when Vista stops working :). Mac: Looks nice :)

It is just XP Professional with a Vista wallpaper, but it'll do.

Would be extremely hard for Microsoft to take any kind of legal action based on an IP address from the logs of a discussion forum. First they need to get the IP address from the forum logs, then they need to get names etc. from an ISP, and then they need to prove that the IP was actually used to download or upload their software. A forum post itself won't do for evidence, just like me posting a message like "I shot JFK" won't have any legal value. They'd have a better chance of success if they monitor the P2P networks directly. The creators of this forum won't have any legal trouble because of what's discussed here. Posting and hosting a message like I downloaded a copy of Vista from BitTorrent is not illegal unless that message is accompanied by a link to the illegal content itself (in some countries a link to e.g. a torrent file may be illegal too).

I share an MSDN subscription with others in my department, don't be so quick to assume everyone is using pirated copies.

Could some of the problems folk are having with it be related to this... Methinks yes.
