Would be extremely hard for Microsoft to take any kind of legal action based on an IP address from the logs of a discussion forum. First they need to get the IP address from the forum logs, then they need to get names etc. from an ISP, and then they need to prove that the IP was actually used to download or upload their software. A forum post itself won't do for evidence, just like me posting a message like "I shot JFK" won't have any legal value. They'd have a better chance of success if they monitor the P2P networks directly. The creators of this forum won't have any legal trouble because of what's discussed here. Posting and hosting a message like I downloaded a copy of Vista from BitTorrent is not illegal unless that message is accompanied by a link to the illegal content itself (in some countries a link to e.g. a torrent file may be illegal too).
