Internet constantly dropping

I'm having this weird problem with Vista. After some time (can be a few minutes or
a few hours) my internet connection dies. But here is the catch: my torrent files
keep downloading and uploading without a problem but everything else stops working
(email, web browsing, messenger, etc).
Does anybody have a clue what is going on? My computer is connected directly with
my cable modem so it isn't anything related to wireless router.
Thx.

I noticed that Vista seems to have reduced upload Bandwidth Speed by about 30 percent
over my XP Computers. So my guess is your Torrent files have sucked your available
Bandwidth down to nothing. I haven't really tried to figure out why, but maybe this
info will help get you pointed in a direction to look.

I've suspected that this problem was caused by the torrents. What bothers me a lot
is that after Microsoft messed up with the number of half-open connections in XP
SP2 they should've know better this time.
Going back to XP as there is no way I will give up my P2P activities.
Thnx

I've got a different variant of this problem. The setup is DSL Modem -> Main computer
(Vista + ICS Enabled)-> Crossover cable -> Family computer (XP). The main computer
gets the internet connection just fine with no dropouts like described, however,
the family computer's connection is pretty messed up. There's definately a major
bug in Vista's ICS that prevents me from switching OSes. The family computer may
be able to view outside sites for 5-60 seconds upon physically connected, but afterwards,
even the main computer is unpingable. This is not a wiring issue as switching the
main computer back to XP shows <1ms pings between the local computers. With Vista,
pings vary between 50ms to 2000ms and eventually become 100% dropped. Until MS fixes
(Or a 3rd party figures out the issue and hacks together a fix) this issue, I refuse
to use Vista.

I had a connection problem with vista (always lost connection after playing this
game over the internet and having to reboot to fix it 'cause nothing else I know
of worked).
A change of network interface card / ethernet solved it.
