Vista and Brother MFC-8440 software

I upgraded from XP Pro to Vista Ultimate. The upgrade went pretty smooth. However, I have a Brother MFC-8440. I am able to print on Vista as it recognized the printer and installed the driver. But I am not able to perform the rest of the functions like scan, fax, etc. The device came with a software for that. So I tried reinstalling the software. It won’t reinstall. So I contacted Brother. They don’t seem to be ready with the new version. When trying to install MFL-Pro Suite, after a few steps, it fails saying: Cannot get Device Name Brother MFC-8440

This sounds typical for the rollout of drivers for multifunction printers and such.

The basic driver included with the OS allows the unit to print with some basic functions,
but the manufacturer's driver is needed to print will all the bells and whistles,
as well as to do more spohisticated things like faxing from the desktop, scanning,
etc.
