Vista Won't Launch Screensaver or Turn Off Monitor

I've installed Vista and have noticed that - irrespective of what I do - I can't
get it to display a screensaver or (preferably) turn off the monitor. It simply keeps
the screen displaying regardless of what I do. I've been looking at the MS Public
newsgroups and other sources and haven't found anything like this.
Has anyone else seen this? Do you know how to make it work properly? I'm using RC1
and, in general, really like it - but I can't keep the PC running if I have to worry
about monitor burn.
Thanks; any help would be greatly appreciated.

This may be incompatibility that exists w/ MS Laser 6000 keyboard? I had same issue.
Kill ehtray.exe process and mine started working again.

I had the very same problem. Took SteveB's advice but that didn't work. Then disconnect
my MS Wireless Media Keyboard and Mouse. Replaced it with the HP key board that
came with the (new) computer. Works perfectly. For me Steve's diagnosis was exactly
right, but the solution didn't work. Problem must be incompatability with the keyboard.
Thanks SteveB!
