Took SteveB's advice but that didn't work. Then disconnect my MS Wireless Media Keyboard and Mouse. Replaced it with the HP key board that came with the (new) computer. Works perfectly. For me Steve's diagnosis was exactly right, but the solution didn't work. Problem must be incompatability with the keyboard. Thanks SteveB!
