No Sound from Creative Audigy card

Hi all, I know I could wait until January for release of 'proper' drivers but hey if you don't ask :-) I've just installed for testing Vista Enterprise etc & so far it looks great etc. Just cannot get the sound to work. I went to Creatives site & downloaded the beta driver for Vista 32 bit & to all intents & purposes windows thinks it has sound e.g. volume thingy in the taskbar & sound options to play a certain noises (though only mono or stereo option not 7.1) Everything looks good in device manager etc just no sound. I know the hardware etc is good coz it's a dual boot machine & it works great in XP Pro. I'm only playing with it & I like it so far but if anyone has overcome this problem please let me know. The beta driver I installed mentioned it will expire in January (8th I think) so I guess they will be writing one but maybe there is some trick I'm missing. Oh BTW, I also tried the 'working' XP Pro driver as well with the same effect. I've also fed it back to Creative Beta feedback team. Thanks in advance for any wizardry/idea Gary

I have the same problem. I have the audigy 2 ZS and downloaded the beta version. The suround mixer isn't there. So I downloaded the windows xp version and tried to install but Vista is not even allow me to install that. If there comes January and February of 2007 and there are not drivers for many of these hardware than Vista is basically only for hype.

Most Hardware manufactures are not going to spend to much time on writing new Drivers for a Beta product that is in flux like Vista. Feel lucky that you just have sound at this point. I had to try 3 different sound Cards to find one that worked with Vista. I remember when XP came out a lot of old Hardware was left in the dust. I think it took about a year after XP's final release before the Manufacture of My scanner released XP Drivers that worked with the Scanner.

Steve,

Yup, good point.. thiough I don't have any sound at all which has surprised me as
you'd think at least some basic native drivers or drivers that XP used would be employed.
I'm sure my Audigy 2ZS is nothing special sound wise to get going even if it was
only stereo.

As I've installed Vista Enterprise I'm reliably informed this is more or less the
finished article although a month or more early:-) I agree it's down to the likes
of Creative to do their thing when they feel it's appropriate.

Shame coz so far I like using it & the look of it etc & my pc aint cutting edge (amd
3400 + 1gB) but it works fine.

Using XP as example again, it doesn't have drivers for half of the Sound Cards out there. And XP has been out for over 5 Years now. The XP Forum probably has thousands of Posts about Sound not working.

On my Vista installs, I first tried to get the ABit Motherboards Sound to work, gave up then tried a older Creative Live Card, then a Turtle Beach sound card, not ready to totally give up, I then removed a Creative Audigy card from one of my XP Boxes. It's Sound works but the sound mixer controls don't, and the game port doesn't work.

Microsoft has always had pretty bad support for Sound Drivers, and I doubt it will improve with Vista. It is unrealistic to expect to much support from anyone other then the Manufacture of the Sound Card.

I went to the Turtle Beach Web site to find that they Posted no intent to put out Vista Drivers for their Sound Card until after Vista goes on Sale.

Just to let y'all know I was messing with this problem again & I thought I'd go into the Creative Audio Console which the beta driver installed & I noticed it was configured for stereo so I changed it to 7.1 & bingo I suddenly had sound (dunno why it wouldn''t work outta two speakers) so hopefully that will help somebody with my config. After further experimentation it looks like it only worked after installing the 40mB XP driver for Audigy 2ZS & then the Creative Audio Console fix.
